WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2003, the Institute of Inequalities is a Non-Governmental Organization whose main objective is to investigate and denounce the geographic, socioeconomic and gender inequalities that have a greater impact on the community, as well as to think about, propose and implement alternatives and actions, from the community and university spheres to propose and implement alternatives.

To achieve these objectives, the Institute carries out research, innovation, awareness raising, denunciation, development cooperation, community action and advocacy for the generation of policies.

WHAT WE DO

The ID’s work is based on four lines of work around which all the projects they carry out revolve. These lines of work are:

GENDER INEQUALITIES AND SUPPORT FOR FEMINISMS

Line of work that includes projects that promote the reporting of rights violations and support for the increase of organizational capacities of women’s and feminist movements, promotion of policies and recognition of leadership to reduce reported violations. All of this is done in a transversal way to consider and recognize the diversity of women in terms of social class, legal status, sexual diversity, origin, religion or disability.

DEFENCE OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

It is based on the conviction that vulnerable groups must be given a voice and a leading role in actions. It also recognizes the importance of promoting the participation of communities in decision-making that concerns them collectively and as individuals.

INEQUALITIES IN HEALTH

Line of work that includes projects that study health inequalities and the social determinants that cause them and propose actions to reduce them.

FIGHT AGAINST ISLAMOPHOBIA AND RACISM

Islamophobia and racism are a growing phenomenon, heightened by the emergence and consolidation of new far-right political forces with clearly racist and Islamophobic narratives that normalise discriminatory discourse. Muslim women experience Islamophobia from the paternalistic and racist perspective of the Western population and governments both in their countries of origin and when they migrate to Western countries. These women are denied the right to dignified treatment, to choose the religion they want, to freedom of dress and expression, among others, and rarely enjoy the right to protection against the discrimination they suffer.
